Charly Antolini

The Swiss drummer who's played in traditional and swing bands with European, expatriate and visiting American players. He recorded in Switzerland with Bill Coleman in the the '50s, and played in the dixieland group The Tremble Kids in the late '50s, early '60s and early '70s. He also played for five years in the German big band of The Suddeutscher Rundfunk. He has recorded with Wolfgang Dauner, Eugen Cicero, Stuff Smith, and Baden Powell, been a bandleader and session musician and played with Lionel Hampton and Benny Goodman in the '80s. He also toured the Soviet Union. Charly lives in Munich - Germany and tours regularly with his own band Jazz Power.

Charly Antolini can superimpose such complex rhythms that it's sometimes hard to believe that you are only listening to one drummer. Nevertheless, a swinging rhythm is an absolute must for him, and his guiding principle is, as he says himself, "to express something with every beat". With the international line-up of his Jazz Power project at the 2002 Hot Jazz Festival, he triumphantly proved once again that he is one of the best drummers in the world. Charlie Antolini - Drums, Steve Hooks - Saxophone, David Gazarov - Piano, Andrej Lebanov - Trumpet, Rocky Knauer - Bass
