Roberto Dani

Roberto Dani was born in Vicenza, Italy in 1969.
He began playing drums at the age of 9. Between '89 and '92, he recorded with the "Devil Doll", a rock-progressive band which reached the highest recognition in Europe, South Korea and Japan.
Between '92 and '93, he took part at various percussion projects of music by European composers, folk music bands.
In '94, he won a scholarship and spent some months at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he collaborated with the best-known teachers like Hal Crook, George Garzone and started to collaborate with the Finnish piano player Mika Pohjola with whom he toured Europe, USA, Japan and recorded for various broadcasting companies like YLE (Finland), SR (Sweden) and BBC Wales.
In '96 he played with Paolo Fresu- Nguyen Lè Euro 4ET in France, Italy and many festivals with Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi. In '97 he played with french accordion player Richard Galliano and started to collaborate with trumpeter- composer Kenny Wheeler who had featured with the Italian pianist Glauco Venier.
In the same year he won, with the Glauco Venier Trio, the first prize at "Jazz a Vienne" competition in France, including the 2nd best soloist prize as well.

In '98 he recorded ballet's music for the "Teatro La Scala" in Milan, composed by Carlo Boccadoro.
Always in '98 he founded his first band "Images" with vocalist Norma Winstone, cellist Henning Sieverts and pianist Glauco Venier.
In the beginning of 2000, he created his new trio "Interférences" with the french tuba player Michel Godard and american trumpet player Kyle Gregory.
In 2002 a new quartet started to perform including clarinet player Louis Sclavis, cellist Vincent Courtois and trumpet player K. Gregory.

In Italy, he regulary performs/records with the "Gramelot" Ensemble of guitarist Simone Guiducci, various ensembles of the pianist Giorgio Gaslini, Umberto Petrin Trio, Sing Without Words, Bebo Ferra "Mari Pintau", Alberto Pinton's Clear Now, the ensemble "Musica Reservata", Duo Klang.
During his career, he performed in various festivals and clubs in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Scotland, England, Wales, France, Germany, Austria, Israel, Portugal, Ethiopia and Japan. He frequently appears in the New York jazz scene at Blue Note, Knitting Factory.
He played also with Louis Sclavis, Yves Robert, Lee Konitz, Tim Berne, Ben Monder, Wolfgang Pushnig, Mick Goodrick, Hal Crook, Erik Friedlander and many others.
The discography includes more than 40 Cd's.
