Maureen Brown

I was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and started drumming at the age of 10 years old. I was classically trained as a percussionist and performed with the Edmonton Philharmonic Orchestra, but began a blues career, in Toronto. One of my most memorable performances was my first headliner blues performance with John Hammond, at The Horseshoe Tavern, and Dan Aykroyd was there.
Since then I've performed with such great blues giants as Lowell Fulson, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, "Bones" Malone, Otis Rush, Margie Evans, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Michael Coleman, Tinsley Ellis and Jeff Healey, to name only a few.

When I first met my drummer-husband Rick Gratton (Rick has taught Anton Fig, Kenny Aronoff and drums with Ian Thomas and The Boomers ), he asked me who my favorite drummer influences were. I replied, "definitely Richie Hayward" (of Little Feat). Rick called Richie up and asked him if he would do a drum duet with me.
This is how my debut CD, 'BE CLOSE ', was born. Kim Wilson, (The Fabulous Thunderbirds), an acquaintance of mine, asked if he could play harp on a couple tracks and Canada's finest, Ian Thomas came on board as producer, musician, co-writer. Some of the players on the CD include Bill Dillon (Robbie Robertson, Daniel Lanois), Mike Francis, and Peter Cardinali .
