Drums, percussion, bass, mandolin and cavaquinho - these arre just a few of the instruments that Brazilian born Jorginho Gomes has mastered. Addinng composing and producing to his already nemerous and notable skills, Jorginho was born into a family of musicians breathing Tropicalism, rock’n’roll and Brazilian regional music.
At the age of 12 Jorginho had already made his first recorninf, a compact vinyl with a group called Os Minos. With Os Minos he had already shared stages with his brother Pepeu Gomes. At this time they were part of the so-called “Mini Guard” and attended TV shows such as “O Bom”, hosted by singers Silvinha and Eduardo Araujo.
Jorginho has been working with Gilberto Gil for about twenty years, having become one of the most representative drummers in Brazil, most probably due to his precocious musical initiation, and International respect.
He has had the privilege of playing and recording with the cream of the MPB â€“ Brazilian Popular Music, among them: Novos Baianos, Baby Consuelo, Pepeu Gomes, A Cor do Som, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown, Ed Mota, Tim Maia, Armandinho, Moraes Moreira, Paulinho Boca, Milton Nascimento, Maria Bethania, Ermeto Pascoal, Sivuca, Cassiano, Arthur Maia, Celso Fonseca, Paulinho Moska, Erasmo Carlos, Wando, Joao Suplicy (as arranger), Sergio Chiavazzoli, Mara Maravilha (2 Golden Disc Awards as producer), and Jorge Benjor. He has made special performances with Chico CÃ©sar, Elza Soares, Virginia Rodrigues, Toni Garrido, Ivete Sangalo, Daniela Mercury, Dominguinhos, Djavan, Arnaldo Antunes, Elba Ramalho, Paula Toler, Sandra de Sa and others.
