Half-Time Feel

The half-time feel gives a song the feeling of being slower than it is. Drummers often use this type of rhythm during verses or quieter, mellower parts of songs. The half-time feel can use either eighth or sixteenth notes. What distinguishes the half-time feel from the regular-time feels (grooves with backbeats on two and four) is that you play the snare drum on the third beat of the measure instead of the second and fourth. This technique makes the rhythm seem half as fast as its regular counterpart.
