Storing Drums

When storing drums, try to avoid extremes in temperature and humidity. Some people suggest a humidity-controlled room but as long as your drums are in a reasonable consistent environment, they’ll be fine. Try to avoid keeping your drum in direct sunlight because the finish will fade or the head may crack (natural skins only). If you have natural skin drums that you don’t play very often, I recommend that you detune them by loosening up the heads so that they aren’t under pressure. Of course, this means that you’ll have to tune them up every time that you play them, but your heads will last much longer.
