The drums were set up right before the sound guys came on to start miking up everything for sound check. I remember looking out at this empty arena and thinking "you could land the Concorde in this room!" When you don't have all those stage lights blinding you you can actually see past the front of the stage. I notice I have a towel tucked into the snare drum rods in this picture too. I had to keep wiping my hands and arms because it's really hot under those lights and sweat would pour off so profusly that I would see it on the floor and on my drum stool.
