i just got a set for Christmas, and just today got a new snare head. when you hit it, it sounds llike hitting a tom and a snare at the same time. my old head didn't do this.

1.bad tunning very likely

Sounds like you should check your tuning from both sides, also check if your snare spring is working and tuned properly.

what pasha said. A snare head is usally tightened suprisingly high. If you havnt changed your resonant head, and it came tuned with the kit, match the batter head with that head.

And as pasha said, definetly try tightening your snare wire.
