Hi everyone!
My name is Aviv Cohen and I'm originally from Tel Aviv, Israel where I was lucky enough to have played with some of the biggest Pop, Rock, Regga, Hip Hop and Funk artists in the country.
Recently relocated to Los Angeles, California to pursue my own project - alt. rock band Drugstore Fanatics (
www.Drugstorefanatics.com
) among other musical endeavors.
I love listening to many types of music, anything from Metal to Reggae to some forms of African music or Middle Eastern and Balkan music.
Hope to fit in here.
Aviv.

Hey guys, my name is César, I'm a 30y old brazilian drummer. I've been playing drums since 16 (my first kit was an awesome Pearl Export), and that's what I do for a living. 3 years ago I quit drums to focus on another instrument (keyboard) but now I'm back to drumming fulltime
I hope we can all hang around and have a nice time!

I enjoyed the vid, I think PASHA has a special section here where you can share all your drum vids. You are clearly not a beginner so that would not be that section.

Cancer Sucks!

OK, my name is Tom, I am 55 and live in the metro Detroit area in Michigan. I played when I was a kid, not real well, but I could play a groove and keep time. Fills were minimal, but I was able to sit in. Around Age 21 I stopped sitting in, life had gotten in the way, wife, son, etc. By 24 or 25 I stopped playing and the Gretsch round badge kit sat in the basement unused.
I was running a photography business, and was getting burned out. A friend of mine asked if I would like to build hot rod motors again with him. I said yes. So I took on a job with Dart Heads as a machinest and engine builder. About a year after I was hired there was a management shake up, and I was not very happy after that. I got really frustrated and needed to do something creative in my life, so I broke the kit out again and started playing. Then after a year, I left that job, to work with my son in his business. 3 months after I left, I had emergency surgery, and they found something unexpected. After many tests, scans, and a biopsy, it was confirmed I had stage 4 cancer. Follicular non-hodgkins lymphoma, a treatable but still incurable cancer. so I decided then that I should get serious about drumming. I also wanted to do something larger than myself, and after much thought, I decided to do a fund raising dinner, with a live band for dancing and of course I would play drums.
Putting the band together turned out to be harder than I thought it would be. No one answered my craigs list ads, stopped at a few music stores and asked, but did not go well. Then it was suggested I go to Marshall Music. I go in and tell the guy at the counter what I wanted to do, and he said "Well you have a bass player!" He also found guitar and keys for me too. We got together once before the gig. We were going to do mostly classic rock (I LOVE Jazz, but figured the audience would like classic rock most.) Some of the tunes we did were not bad, others just sounded forced. I mentioned we needed to sound better, the guys said they mostly did jazz. so I said "let swiing it!" We played for another 3 hours, and it was amazing. The chemestry was unreal! So at the gig we did a jazz set, a short rock set, and closed with a jazz set. Also, in the last year, I had lost 5 friends to cancer. All in my internet support group. I wanted to do something special for them. I was thinking of Saturday in the Park by chicago. John, the bass player, had a great idea. Why not do a jazz number in the new orleans tradition, starting slow, and then really swinging at the end. He siad he would pick out the perfect song, and that he did, "Stolen Moments." The band is sticking together and we will be recording some demos shortly. BTW, I am in complete remission right now, and that sort of ties in with the name of the band. The name is "Dancing with Ned" NED is an acronym for "No Evidence of Disease" Dancing with Ned is cancer talk for being cancer free. Seemed right somehow!
So that is the "short" ver of my story for now!
God Bless
Tom
