The Slapstik?

I would like to hear someone who has really mastered the Slapstik.  I checked out the videos and the demos just remind me of kids I let bang around on my kit at family events.

I think using two of them may get interesting on some things I have in mind, but I'm too busy to work on that now, and for something so mechanical (meaning; likely to break) I don't see it being an investment for me to make until it is better proven.

Nonetheless, I wouldn't mind seeing them in the hands of a master.

I honestly haven't tried this one yet.  I'll try to get by the drum shop and check it out.

You've had this post up for some time now.  I'm really surprised that no one has posted a response.

So, hey.....somebody share your experience with the slapstick.

I watched the solo by Slapstick here on D.S.A. and I don't think it is something that I would want to work with.  The only advantage I recognized was you can double your ride speed after you master the upstroke timing on the hi hat without increasing your effort and energy needed to do so.

Agree, while I am sure that this idea can be useful for some drummers out there, personally I dont think that it is a cool one for me...

In any way there are many, many "add-on-inventions" like the slapstick out there, and knowing them would only make one "reacher-sounding" as you can never know what exactly will you need for your next gig.

But knowing more about what is available out there would give you more options to choose from!

For whatever it's worth in the discussion......I've played that double "upbeat" stroke since the sixties.....using a regular drum stick.  I had never seen anyone do that stroke, it was just something that worked for me.

For everyone who has found a use for Slapstik....cool.

It's something I played with at drum the drum store yet couldn't see a need for it in my work.

as soon as I get a chance I'm gonna try it with a standard and then pick up a slap stik to see the difference, but its 9:10 at night, just finished a 12 hour shift...so it won't be tonight.  I'll get back to you on it
