drum stick moves?

Hi all,

not ur typical drummer here. I do military drumming/drum with a brass band/play in a group of drum corps.  

Now, if any of you have seen the movie Drumline (yes, i know, terrible plot/actors etc etc) im looking to find somewhere where i can get a book/video/dvd that has STICK MOVES on it. you know, the whole play on someone elses drum fancy moves with the stick stuff.

i cannot for the life of me find anything anywhere!

any help would be awesome.

Last friday i went to see John Blackwell. It was very good.

But more to the point, If you dont know who he is, he is a drummer for Prince at the moment, and he started the drums in a drum corps. He carried the stick work and skills onto the drum kit. He has a DVD on Hudson Music, and he covers stick tricks on that.

Also look at Thomas Lang's DVD also on Hudson Music. He goes quitte deep into showmanship.

3/4 of the way thru the vid they start playing on each others drums.  Im looking more into doing stickwork while throwing out the drum patterns rather then just stick spinning (bit difficult when ur on the march!!).

I guess i could always make up my own stick work....hmm.....lol....

I gotta admit, that stuff is quite impressive. I dont think there is a book on that sorta stuff lol. But i bet they didnt take it from a book. They made that stuff up themselves. Making your own up is the best way to go.

Once i get some time i will get working on some fancy stuff!

Prob is, i have to find some more drummers. No one seems interested in military drumming these days. what is happening to the world! hehe.

if no ones interested, thier missing out! I would love to do military drumming. The power and intensity of the sound from it is amazing. It looks hard work, but i would love to at least give it a try.

Im about to do something like it though. Im joining a samba band in my area, which i also enjoy doing.

Getting drummers? Ask around i guess. Maybe Schools that have a drum corps, or even ask  at drum clinics. Im always interested in going into different areas of drumming, so if someone ask me to do something like that, no matter how odd it might be, i would be up for it. Im sure thier are may other drummers in your community that would do the same.

There is actually a drum corps in my city, but they practice half an hour away and they are a bit too sloppy for me.  They do all their recruiting from boys brigade >.<

I want to pawn (own) them!  I mite ask the band if i can throw an advert in the paper, and maybe at some music stores.  I've tried schools before and didnt have any luck (they dont have their own drum corps).

Come to New Zealand and we can do some military drumming together

Its not the same as the military stick spining but all in all I don't think theres to much difference.  
and I enjoy doing the line drumming at school. un-fortunatly I have to play it match style on a regular set snare.  :-/

just wanted to bring this post back to everyones attention and see if they have any new links for drum stick moves?

and also...just on the recruitment front, i have had ONE (yes, only one) recruit...and that was just recent.  Aurgh it is so frustrating!!! sighs.  please, anyone from Auckland, want to do military drumming? PM me
