well Bud, as you can tell, I've got opinions on a lot-o-stuff...
 Smiley

I have quite a few Gibraltar rack pieces. Its always seemed the easiest....to put together, tear-down, transporting, etc....
AND
because its basically useable for ANY drum set or brand, I think its better (and a llittle cheaper)....

Do the price comparison thing, I'll bet you'll be able to find a bunch of Gibraltar hardware for very reasonable prices, where as if you chose a specific brand name....Pearl,Tama,whatever its gonna be more expensive, and what if you decide in 2 years to buy a different drum set....then what.

You should come over to my crib and check out all the whacky shit you can do with the Gibraltar set ups, I mean I got CYmbals and Tom Arms and even figured out how to attach my Remo Roto toms.... Cheesy
4  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Drum Talk - Drums and Drum Setups / Re: Which drum head do you use? on: March 14, 2007, 12:08:34 AM
i've tried many different heads, I always seem to come back to Remo.

IMO, its more of the drums, and the tuning that really makes the sound good.

My personal opinion....

you use whatever sounds good to you. Or fits, with what youre playing. I've got different cymbals for all sorts of applications. I've got Zildjians, Sabians, a couple Meinls, and two small Wuhans.....

I've got a bunch o tunes I use That heavy 22" Sabian Ride of Neil Pearts. and some where I use a 20" semi thin Zildian ride...

the two cheapo Wuhans I got were on sale at GC....for dirt....one's a china and the other is a splash - they both have there places....

whatever floats your boat dude!

they are not a waste of time or money.....however  they can be a pain in the ass though......

I've been drumming for over 30 years and I still have a love/hate relationship with a click!

(as i'm sure a lot of you also do)

with the band, and like SMelly Granny said, with rudiments and freestyle practicing its A GREAT tool.

Dudes, I got both an Axis double with long boards and 1 single Iron Cobra.....

I'm not just a spoiled brat (seriously) but, I'm really not happy with either.

The action (from only what i've seen) of the Sonor Giant Step Pedals looks great, but....

I've never actually played em, plus i'm not really crazy about the shape of the board...

anyone got any NEW pedal suggestions?

like Thomas Lang uses.
Anyone got any hands-on (er: feet on) experience?
11  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Drummers Discussions - General / Re: How do I read drum tabs? on: February 20, 2007, 12:08:09 AM
i use a program called Tab Trax to convert Tabs into Notation (and vice-a-vers-a)
its pretty cool, and works well for transcribing drum parts (IMO)

15  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Drummers Discussions - General / Re: Double-Bass Pedal a Must?? on: October 14, 2006, 10:49:12 PM
well, my guess is....

if you take away the single pedal and replace it with a double pedal, you won't be deducting anything.
If anything you would probably have to pay more.

like with any drum equipment, do the research first, check reviews, do test drives, then work the price game back and forth between GC, Sam Ash, and whoever else is around that sells it

17  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Drummers Discussions - General / Re: Jazz Music on: October 07, 2006, 08:19:08 AM
I have two Elvin Jones CD's

they are:

Elvin Jones, featuring David Liebman - 'Earth Jones' - Quicksilver Records
&
Elvin Jones - 'Brother John' - Quicksilver records

I DO think that Elvin Jones is one of THE most wildest drummers I have EVER heard, just off the wall, unbelievable grooves and fills, a friggin genius

anyway, let me find some other jazz suggestions and i'll get back to you on that

i went out and bought one of those cheap 12" Wuhan Chinas from GC on sale for like $11.99 a while back....(for 12 bucks can you go wrong, probably, but...)

it has its place for me, seldomly used, its surprisingly decent....it kinda fits in a couple a tunes I do....like....um......(thinking process slow, just got up a few mins ago)......

Billy Idol....dancin with myself
INXS....original sin

just to name a couple....for me it seems when the band sound is full and the cymbal wash is already pretty loud,  there are spots to stick a china hit or two, every now and then (IMO)
 Smiley
so am I a big fan? no, but I think they have there place, definitely is based on what you're playing

stay with it, dude!
keep practicing and playing as much as you can.

I'm 44 and still learn new drum and percussion stuff all the time.

I try to play every day, no matter what.

I love it.
and i'm pretty sure i'm on the way to going deaf (so protect your hearing) and i'm also pretty sure that i'm tettering on insanity also....
