2  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Drummers Discussions - General / Vintage cymbals rusted up overnight on: January 15, 2010, 02:59:39 PM
I just got this message from a friend on my facebook wall. Does anyone have any experience/can you help with this?

***hey Phillip, just had some crazy stuff happen to my cymbals and need some advice if you got it. had my drums set up in the same room as our inverter, and the batteries started burning off the water yesterday for one reason or another. anyway this caused the room to get incredibly humid. my two vintage A's rusted up ove...r night, straight black. and my newer diril turned purple. I hate to ruin the patina I had going on both those cymbals, but I dont want them falling apart. you got any home remides to clean that up without fully cleaning off the patina? I really like the way my ride sounds with 50yrs of dirt on it, hate to ruin that.
hope all is well, mike.***

I pretty much just play the drums. I started to learn piano and guitar, but always wanted to play the drums instead of practicing those "other" instruments. Looking back I wish I had learned to read music better.
5  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Drummers Discussions - General / black stain, aged pearl inlay, tube lugs! on: December 22, 2009, 10:26:28 AM
Sorry for the bad picture (from my phone) but here is a kit I'm working on. This is going to be a 10, 14, and 20" kick kit. It has a black stain and aged pearl inlay with a high gloss finish. It is equipped with Classic tube lugs from Ego Drum supply. These are great tube lugs that are made from aluminum which make them much lighter than the lugs made from solid brass. I'll post more pictures as soon as I get the whole kit done!
6  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Cymbal Talk - Drum Cymbals / Re: Sabian Cymbal Warranty - anyone ever had their cymbal replaced? on: December 22, 2009, 10:24:19 AM
This might be helpful. I called the number listed below and talked to a Sabian Rep who gave me my RA# and then I just put my cymbal in a cardboard box with a copy of my receipt, and the RA# inside, and also a short explanation of where I bought it, (i bought from Jeff Ryders Drum shop, and the owner actually went to the Sabian factory and hand picked the cymbal that I bought)...So in my experience and from reading a couple of different forums about warranty services, I would think that you would have a much faster turn-around by NOT going through the store you bought it from. - That's just my opinion!

How do I return my broken cymbal for warranty?

    In North America to obtain warranty service, ship the cymbals prepaid along with a copy of the dated proof of purchase to the following;

    In the USA.
    SABIAN Inc,
    100 Enterprise Drive,
    Marshfield, MA.

In the USA, please call 1-800-81-SABIAN to request an RA #

    In Canada
    #219 Main St.
    Meductic, NB
    E6H 2L5

Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing and return shipping.

at the moment it is Stanton Moore. I love the way he combines traditional new Orleans drumming with modern drumming!

10  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Cymbal Talk - Drum Cymbals / Sabian Cymbal Warranty - anyone ever had their cymbal replaced? on: December 09, 2009, 12:20:27 PM
About a week ago I sent a cracked cymbal to Sabian to get it replaced since it was still under it's 2 year warranty. I was wondering if anyone else has ever used their factory warranty to replace a cracked cymbal? This is my first time doing this, so I just wanted to see how it went down for other people.
11  Drum Forums / Drum Forum - Cymbal Talk - Drum Cymbals / funny story on: December 08, 2009, 11:10:07 AM
So I just put an old cracked Sabian AAX dark crash on craigslist and sold it to a guy down the street from me. This cymbal was cracked pretty bad in a couple of spots, it had about 3 different 1 inch cracks from the edge. I asked the guy what he was gonna do with a cracked cymbal and he said.....

Well I'm sponsored by Sabian so I'll just ask my rep to put this cymbal on my list and then I'll send it in to get it replaced....

hah, makes me wish I had a cymbal deal...or any deal. I won't reveal this drummer's name or band since this could look bad for him, but his band has had a couple of big tunes...hopefully we can become better friends....maybe I'll try to crack more cymbals for him. hehe.
12  General Chit-Chat / General Chit-Chat / I made a boo boo on this drum set... on: December 07, 2009, 04:26:53 PM
Well, I just made a boo boo with this drum set

I put 1" tom lugs on the bass drum...tom lugs don't have the height for the tension rods to screw in straight if you use them on a bass drum....so I'm getting the 2" BASS DRUM lugs shipped to me as we speak. I plan on drilling another hole an inch below the lower lug hole for the 2 in lug....then i'll have an extra hole in the middle...I could just leave it and use them for my air vents all 20 of them!...but I think i'm going to try to stick LED lights in the holes and somehow use a trigger to light them up every time I kick it. I'll keep you posted....
