Well last time I visited our chat room I have been asked "Who is Pasha?" and "Who are you Pasha?"
To me, that sounded funny and sad at the same time...  ;D :'(

Soooo...

Let me introduce my self again, just in case, you know...

My name is PASHA (http://www.drumsoloartist.com/Site/Pasha.html) and you can find more info about me just by typing pasha in the search bar of this site.

Also I would like to take this opportunity to remind all the drummers out there that we do have different and free ways to introduce and promote drummers on Drum Solo Artist! - You can start by submitting your Profile-Bio by following this link:

Title: My introduction:)
Post by: Drummer_Ben on January 15, 2006, 09:20:45 AM
Hi, this is my first post here :)

I have been learning drums for about a year and I practice often(From once to twice a week/one hour+ to two). Drumming is one of my favourate hobby and I take it seriously:D

I am under supervision from an experience teacher of 40+ 8-) (He is very particuler about my timings which I often go too fast;D )
I practice with a Metronome in class (Half an hour a week on Sats) and with a variaty of musics as well eg: Funks, Discos, Early Rocks, Hardrocks, Ballads, Hip Hops, Pops and Shuffles etc...(All under teacher's supervision). Very soon I will be reaching Reggae, Blues, Jazz, Samba, Bossa, and Latin etc...(I can't remember some). I am currently mad about Jazz drumming and I have managed to compose my own patterns and fills(Rather complex ones:D ) :) 8-) I even managed to play them correctly and they sound cool(Better than I had expected)!

Up to this stage I currently owned three pairs of good quality sticks(All with wooden tips and fully wooden ofcouse;) ). I am considering a drumset(Basic one) and I plan to get a good quality 20' ride cymbal to replace the 18' one which I usually don't fancy.

I have finished a book by the name of "Rock Drum Method" by Alfred - Patrick Wilson quite a time ago. Actually I started with that book! Alot of students find that book tough and I quite agree with all that complicated/Systematic one bar fills and patterns that forces you to step the hi-hat with your foot on beats systematically. Some of them couldn't handle it. Anyway I've done it all after much practice:)

I like playing syncopated patterns and accenting on the downbeats or stepping the hi-hat on the downbeats. Currently I am about to start serving. I will be playing mostly Christian songs(Fast and slow). All have their level of difficulties. (Slow song aren't easy at all, they demand more syncopations and rudiments;) ) Fast songs on the other hand, are not easy as well since the tempo can reach up to 200 bpm!! Steady fills and sure/firm patterns are demanded. Different technics are also required for fast and slow songs eg. the way you hold your sticks, strike the set, positions etc....

Finally don't call me an expert, master or pro in drumming, I think I am intemediate currently (I have only so far learned for about a year).
Right, I think I have said enough. Now it's your turn(Feel free to share) 8-)

WASA?
I'm kyle I'm 17, I try my hand at every type of drumming I come across, (jazz, line, death metal)
I've been playing for just about 3 years I practice 6 days a week for 1-4 hours a day,
I'm 100% self thought, in the sense that I've never had a drum teacher
And I hope I can learn somthing from the more seasoned drummer on this fourm as well as pass on any nice techniques I come across

Title: I'm new to the forums
Post by: jumpin_12 on March 10, 2007, 12:27:27 PM
Just found this site, looks great!  Just wanted to say whats up to everyone on here.  Looks like there's a lot of members on this site too!  My name is Derek, I've been playing drums for over a year and half now.  Started out of boredom and had a sprained wrist I wanted to excercise, and now I'm addicted.  Just got a cheap set of drums initially to see if I'd like it or be able to do it, and its been great.

The first year I just picked up on things on my own, then recently the last 3 months started doing some drum lessons once a week to expand my knowledge on everything and do it the right way.  I do martial arts too, so coordination comes easy.  =)

I'm an inventor at heart, so I'm always looking to make something unique and cool for anything I do, like drums.  Havent played with a band yet, still working on becoming really good before even attempting that.   But I'd like to do that eventually to play locally and a lot of different places that I know the owners.  It'd be an easy in probably.  =)  Now I just gotta find the rest of the band members, haha.

Hiya, and welcome to our boards  :) Just wanted to move this to the relevant forum. Good to keep things organised  :P
Hope you learn a lot and have a good time here,
[SmellyG]

Good for you. If it werent for blues, there would be no Jazz. If it werent for Jazz there wouldn't be rock, and etc. It's hard not to appreciate the foundation.

Post by: tomgrosset on September 01, 2007, 04:04:55 AM
Hey everyone,

My name is Thomas Grosset and this is my first post on this forum.

This thread is based on the WFD competition that took place July 27-29th in Austin, TX.

I was labeled as the official WFD champion after winning the 2007 Summer NAMM World Finals in Austin, Texas with 1,156 singles which is currently the highest score that's ever been recorded during the finals. My highest preliminary run was 1194 single strokes which made me the new WFD 16 and under World Record Holder and ranking me as the third fastest in the world.

This is me winning the 2007 Summer World Finals with 1156 single strokes.

Hi I'm Nate 21 from Austin Tx. I've saved up for months to get my first set when I was 15 and i'm been playing ever since. I have a background in piano, organ and keyboard then found myself playing guitar which inevitably led me to the world of drumming  :)

I don't really have anything recorded at the moment but when I find a practice space I'll figure something out.

Hello. I'm Artem 19 from Russia.
I have no my own drums  :'(. It is very difficult to collect money to by set in my country.
Some years ago I fall into love. It was Metallica. Lars helped me to start playing on drums. But my teachers are John Bonham, Ian Paice, Mike Portnoy.
Now I study and work ,,,and sleep (i have no time on other things). It takes me a year to collect money to mapex m birch set with 2 bass drums, and some cymbal for example bosphorus. And I want to have some octobans in my set. It's funny :)

p.s. sorry for my english

Hello all you fellow drum freaks!

I actually just stumbled apon this site looking for some reviews on drum mics!
The site looks pretty cool and I will check it out further!

As for me:

I am 44 years old and I started playing drums when I was 6yrs old. I used to sneak in and play my brothers drums when he was at school!  ;D

I took about an 8 year break from playing altogether and restarted about 6 years ago.

I currently play on a seven piece Tama set with 8 Sabian cymbals, single bass w, double pedals (I learned a long time ago about less drums are easier to move) I use Zildjian 7-A dipped sticks. Evans Ebony Heads, Iron Cobra Pedals, and it's all on a Gibraltar rack system. ( I will get some pics on here eventually and do a drum set up when the site allows me to.)

I enjoy playing about any kind of music, and have played most. I enjoy Progressive Rock the most!

My favorite drummers would include, but not limited to, Mike Mangini, Mike Portnoy, Steve Gadd, The Great Buddy Rich, Greg Bissonette, and Carter Beauford to name a few, and in no particular order. ;D

I have done some studio work, one project did result in a CD for a local female vocalist.
I of course would love to do much more of that!

I am currently playing in the worship band at my church which quite frankly has been one of the coolest gigs I have had to date! I play with some of the most  top notch musicians I have ever played with, in a smoke free, drunk free environment, every week. The drums are always there (no tear down and set up) I have great freedom in this band to be myself and play in my progressive style, and we do it for God! How cool is that!

I don't watch much TV, if I do it's a movie or one of the many concert or instructional drum DVD's I own.

Favorite food must be Chinese food because it seems to be where I end up everytime the wife and I go out to eat.  :D

Odd time signatures would be my favorite to play.

I cut my teeth playing to Keith Moon so I tend to be a busy drummer at times. But that seems to work well with the styles of music I like to play!

Well, I am at work right now so that is all I can write for now, I'll be around when I can!

Thanks! Lee 8)

Name: aj rembert

From: binghamton, ny

Age: 24

Favorite food: anything without mustard!

Favorite TV show: robotchicken or athf

Favorite type of music: musical instruments playing together

Favorite band: depends on the mood. does anyone really have 1 band that's their favorite? i wake up and love the mars volta and by breakfast all i want is coheed and cambria

Favorite Beat: on time :)

Favorite Rudiment: don't really have one. i guess it'd be between variations of the patafafla applied to a set and just a double paradiddle

Favorite Cymbal(s): nice deep & trashy china

Favorite Drummer: so many...there are a lot of really great drummers in the world

Years Playing: 20ish

Why DSA: i came here because i've been playing my drums for so long and want to start showing other people some of the things i've been working on

Other Stuff: i'm in a band, http://www.myspace.com/skoomaband (http://www.myspace.com/skoomaband) and, obviously, play the drums. i have a daughter who's 2 years old and love playing my drumset with mallets or brushes with her. she dances around my set or starts to play with my other sticks, it's a lot of fun. i don't follow any drummer or spend a lot of time reading up on drumming. in my free time i just play my drums and work out new ideas i've had in my head while i was at work or something. probably one of the most fun things about playing the drums is hearing an idea in my head then trying to figure out what will be the best sticking for it. actually sitting at the set, playing the base pattern or something working to figure out how it will all fit in if it can. i also like playing in front of people kind of gives me a rush, i enjoy showing off what i've been working on and seeing people genuinely enjoy themselves.

you can also check me out on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/ajrembert

hi guys.
the name's jeannine, 16, from ireland annnd. well that's that. (:

i've played piano for years (getting grades 7 done asap to get 8 finished before university), violin for one, up to grade 5 theory, and now i'm on to drums.
been playing them for about a year now, and got the basics quick enough, but slowly i've hit a mental block and i've a phobia of improvising. not too uncommon i hope because i'm getting fed up of sitting behind the kit and playing a load of rubbish. started drums because i'm one of those people who just loves to try new things, and drums seemed the way forward since i know quite a few other who're happy to help out. and laugh at me. mostly laugh really, but it's all good banter. haha.
i go to a teacher, and not in a band- not really planning on joining on either tbh. i'm more of a music-for-the-craic sort of person. (:

at the moment, the favourite band would have to be sigur ros, but yeah, the aul itouch is filled up with such a range of material that really should not sit beside each other.
favourite band for playing drums with is .. don't exactly have one. hoping to scower the website looking for advice and tips really.

drum kit is a (quite pretty really, haha) CB Drums kit, with brand spankers new zildjian zbt's (cheers santa). looking for a set of new skins since i decided not to upgrade the whole kit just yet if i'm not gigging.

i joined DSA so that i might get past this block, because i'm starting to think the teacher keeps me on just to laugh at me. (nah, he's swell really.) i'm just looking for anything and everything really that might help me along- new ideas for fills and improv in particular though. also, because after a quick look around the admin's sound lovely, and people really seem to help each other out.

so that's that. hope to get to know some of you (:

First off...welcome Jeannine, and Tino.   To orient yourself with the entire sight will be quite beneficial to you both.  I have been at this drumming business for quite some time now and I have enjoyed this sight as much as anything else I have come across in the field.  I just wish I had more time to enjoy all it has to offer as far as information and opportunity.  Take advantage of these fellow percussionists, I think they (as well as myself) enjoy the attention.

Hi, I'm Allen in California. I've played for many years and right now I'm in a blues band. For acoustic gigs I use a 59 Slingerland cocktail kit and on electric gigs i go between a early 60's premier kit and  late 60's Rogers kit.

Hi Daryy, welcome.  Allen, it sounds like you have quite an interest in vintage kits.  I don't know much about the Premier kit, but the Slingerland cocktail kit I know is quite a find, and in the 60's,  Rogers use to claim the sound award for a long time with me.

Help ?
Looking for parts.
A master link for a bass pedal.
The bass pedal has a brass plate riveted to it.
It reads Sonar Signature Series  Horst Link #3198.
The pedal belongs to a friend who plays drums.
He has other (newer) pedals, but this is his favorite.
I manage a machine shop and the freind asked if I could repair it, but thought it may be easier to find the right part.
Any ideas or direct me to the correct forum would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !
Bill

Bill:  Welcome to DSA

RE: The part you need to repair the Sonor pedal

My best advice is to contact a professional drum shop that can order the correct part.  You may live in a city that has a good professional drum shop that can order Sonor parts.  Or, you may check some of the large web-based operations.  Either way, getting the part that fits correctly is the best way to assure that the pedal will be able to perform as it was designed to do.

Sell drums and gear for a living (for now)..
Currently have a Black Pearl Export, but looking for a DW Collectors..They just sound too sweet.
Had an old Ludwig from the 70's and a Tama Swingstar when I started playing again..Now that I know the difference in quality DW is for me..Used to think I liked Mapex until I met one..:lol no offense please..Inside joke..Yes..God Does have a sense of humour..
Prefer Zildjian Cymbals..only because I grew up with them..finding alot of the Sabians sound pretty good.
I like to have fun..and goof off with friends..Just please remember I am a lady..Thanks  ::)

My name is Reno, I played back in the Jr High days and recently picked it back up after a roughly 25year break (my original set got stolen, by the time I had money for a new one I had other priorities - namely, kids... lol). Of course I'm not a teen anymore so it's been a slow go getting back into the swing of things.
I have never taken lessons (and in some areas it really shows), but I can still lay down a groove or two. I like any music with an interesting groove and some nuance in the playing (like Rush, floyd, stones, zep, etc).

Hi all!

Found this forum, took a look around and felt that this is one of the nicer drum forums around.  So I thought I'd take the leap and dive in!

My name's Jon, and I started drumming seriously about 5 years ago after a lifetime of dabbling on other kits.  A friend of mine was trying to clear out a ton of his musical instruments to prepare for a move, so I ended up with both his Yamaha DTXII and a clearly low end set by some company called Kadence.  I put them together to make a hybrid acoustic/electric set and haven't looked back since!

Hello all... the name is Adam... i have spent a lot of time reading a lot of drum forums on the internet and so far have been very pleased by what i have been able to find here... (usually the first thing you find is a post entitled "best drummer ever" which involves a bunch of people informing other people that their subjective taste is in some way objectively incorrect...)

i have been playing for about 17 years... got started when i was 13 and my brother needed someone to keep time for him... i seemed to take to it quickly...

i have never had any lessons... although i have solicited a great deal of advice... and now i teach as well as play as much as possible... i have had the opportunity to tour extensively across Canada and Europe over the last couple of years because of my counting abilities...

i am looking forward to discovering many more tidbits of wisdom here... as well as finding those wonderful posts that make me realize that i am far from alone in my thinking and my approach to drumming...

it is nice to feel home...

I hope you enjoy the DSA and become a regular participant in the discussions.

OK, my name is Tom, I am 55 and live in the metro Detroit area in Michigan.  I played when I was a kid, not real well, but I could play a groove and keep time.  Fills were minimal, but I was able to sit in.  Around Age 21 I stopped sitting in, life had gotten in the way, wife, son, etc.  By 24 or 25 I stopped playing and the Gretsch round badge kit sat in the basement unused.
I was running a photography business, and was getting burned out.  A friend of mine asked if I would like to build hot rod motors again with him.  I said yes.  So I took on a job with Dart Heads as a machinest and engine builder.  About a year after I was hired there was a management shake up, and I was not very happy after that.  I got really frustrated and needed to do something creative in my life, so I broke the kit out again and started playing.  Then after a year, I left that job, to work with my son in his business.  3 months after I left, I had emergency surgery, and they found something unexpected.  After many tests, scans, and a biopsy, it was confirmed I had stage 4 cancer.  Follicular non-hodgkins lymphoma, a treatable but still incurable cancer.  so I decided then that I should get serious about drumming.  I also wanted to do something larger than myself, and after much thought, I decided to do a fund raising dinner, with a live band for dancing and of course I would play drums.
Putting the band together turned out to be harder than I thought it would be.  No one answered my craigs list ads, stopped at a few music stores and asked, but did not go well.  Then it was suggested I go to Marshall Music.  I go in and tell the guy at the counter what I wanted to do, and he said "Well you have a bass player!"  He also found guitar and keys for me too.  We got together once before the gig.  We were going to do mostly classic rock (I LOVE Jazz, but figured the audience would like classic rock most.)  Some of the tunes we did were not bad, others just sounded forced.  I mentioned we needed to sound better, the guys said they mostly did jazz.  so I said "let swiing it!"  We played for another 3 hours, and it was amazing.  The chemestry was unreal!  So at the gig we did a jazz set, a short rock set, and closed with a jazz set.  Also, in the last year, I had lost 5 friends to cancer.  All in my internet support group.  I wanted to do something special for them.  I was thinking of Saturday in the Park by chicago. John, the bass player, had a great idea.  Why not do a jazz number in the new orleans tradition, starting slow, and then really swinging at the end.  He siad he would pick out the perfect song, and that he did, "Stolen Moments."  The band is sticking together and we will be recording some demos shortly.  BTW, I am in complete remission right now, and that sort of ties in with the name of the band.  The name is "Dancing with Ned" NED is an acronym for "No Evidence of Disease" Dancing with Ned is cancer talk for being cancer free.  Seemed right somehow!
So that is the "short" ver of my story for now!
God Bless
Tom

Recorded in Nashville, at Radiant Studios, on the same kit Mike Portnoy used for all of his work with Neal Morse, the last few Transatlantic albums, and the newest Flying Colors release! Truly a surreal, and exciting experience. I hope you all enjoy!
