Kenny begged his first drum set from his parents when he was 12 and living in the oil town of Borger, outside of Amarillo . After finishing college at The University of Texas in the '70s, Johnson found he could make a good living there doing studio work and playing in clubs ("R&B, blues, a little country. It's all the same to me"). "I still don't know what drove me to pack up everything and move to California. It was the naivete of youth," he said. "I just threw everything in the El Camino and moved out here."
He was working various gigs in the San Francisco area when he heard that Isaak needed a drummer. Johnson was playing briefly with singer Ronnie Spector when Isaak came to check him out. He soon after joined The Silvertones and has been enjoying his career as a recording and touring musician ever since. Kenney's impressive list of performing and recording credits includes: The Elvin Bishop Band, Tommy Tutone, Etta James, Bo Diddley and Mary Wells Rhythm and Blues Review.
When not recording or performing with Isaak's Silvertones, Kenney is busy fostering an acting career.
