Gene Markiewicz

Gene Markiewicz is one of Indianapolis' most established drummers, having performed with many of the areas finest musicians and organizations. He has performed with Jim Edison, Al Cobine, The Buselli/ Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, Steve Robinette, The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and co-led the award winning Carter/Markiewicz Jazz Quartet with the late jazz legend Chuck Carter.

Gene has been involved in several education programs in the community. He has served as the Education Chairperson for The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation. He has tutored elementary school children for the last five years. Gene has attended Indiana Wesleyan University and is a graduate of Marian College.

Gene has performed jazz drumming clinics at several high schools and for the last eight years has been a part of the University of Indianapolis Jazz Combo camps hosted by Harry Miedema.
Gene is an artist/clinician for the Ludwig Drum Company, Bosphorus Cymbals and the Vic Firth Drumstick Company.

Gene's musical influences include, Mel Lewis, John Von Ohlen, Ringo Starr, Elvin Jones, John Coltrane, Michael Brecker, Wes Montgomery, Oscar Peterson, Chuck Carter, and on and on...
