Ed Shaughnessy

Ed Shaughnessy has performed with every major symphony in the United States, countless big bands and has backed almost every creative ensemble to enter a recording studio. After 29 years with the NBC Tonight Show Orchestra, he still performs with the Doc Severinsen Orchestra.

Ed began playing drums at the age of 14 in his native New Jersey and at 19 he was already performing with George Shearing. He has performed on over 500 albums including the recent Telarc release Big Band Hit Parade with the Cincinnati Symphony. He has also performed with the Tommy Newsom TV Jazz Stars released on Lazer Light Records. The Ed Shaughnessy solo release on CMG Records features Ed with his quintet on the recording Jazz in the Pocket.

Ed is one of the most sought after drum clinicians in international music education. His performance cause critics to say "he is one of the world's greatest drummers." To back that up, Modern Drummer Magazine has awarded Ed the distinction of being the "Best Big Band Drummer" on seven different occasions.
Ed Shaughnessy has appeared with the Wisconsin Band on two separate occasions. The first time was in Camp Randall Stadium as a guest of Very Special Arts. Then, in 2004, he appeared at the 30th Annual Spring Concert and wowed the crowd with "Strike Up the Band" and "Sing, Sing, Sing."
